| ABOUT US: |
| |
 |
| |
| Welcome.
I'm Garland McWatters, the founder of
Management You, Inc. and the author of all
Management You courses. |
 |
|
| |
| Teacher, author, consultant |
| |
I've been in
private practice since 1994 as a management
consultant and instructor of professional
development courses. I began writing and presenting
management courses because, frankly, I thought most
other courses I had seen simply lacked heart and
soul. They offered a lot of good skill sets, but
little or no connection to the emotional setting in
which those skills are used. I decided to approach
the courses from a relationship and value-added
point of view that challenged managers to think on
their feet and to recognize the natural dynamics
that are at work in their environment in real-time.
I also developed the perspective that all managing
is a trust relationship devoted to creating value.
I express this in what I term a "Mangement
Imperative," a way of thinking and acting as a
manager. I've observed that we get so hung up over titles and
positions that we forget managing and supervising
are actually not titles, but relationships with
people and how they interact to get work done, which
I call "creating value." When other
consultants saw the courses, they asked to be
certified to teach them, and the Management You
series was born.
But way before that, I developed a philosophy of life
that is probably at the core of my quest to unleash
heart and soul again in the American workplace. I
offer it as a simple admonition: |
| |
| "On
your journey of life, seek to encourage, to enliven,
to enlighten, and to enlarge the expectations of
living for yourself and for others." |
| |
| A student of
learning |
| |
| I've become
a serious student of how we think and learn. I
incorporate our natural learning styles into the
structure of my presentations. So, I hope you will
find participating in Management You seminars and
courses lively and involving as well as thought
provoking. My formal education
consists of a master of science degree in mass
communication from the Oklahoma State University and
a bachelor of arts degree in religion from Oklahoma
Christian University of Science and Arts. However,
the real education has been my daily interaction
from the shop floor to the executive suite and all
points in between in industries ranging from health
care to hog farming--from military bases to
municipal governments--from foundries to law
firms--from assembly lines to bank teller lines--and
from mammoth distribution centers to main street mom
and pop enterprises. |

| Background |
| |
| I've been
blessed with a myriad of value-added experiences and
relationships in both my professional and personal
life. I think these have helped me make my
presentations practical, informative, and fun. My
management experience comes from many industry
segments. In addition to my consulting experience, I
have been a minister, a broadcaster, a salesman, a
university assistant professor, a vocational school
administrator, and a nominee for U.S. Congress from
Oklahoma (2000). Each has been an experience rich
with learning and opportunity providing me with
stories from the real world which I weave into
presentations. |
| |
| Value through
service |
| |
Throughout
life, as you can tell, I have augmented my formal
learning with years of practicing living to the max,
which I call quantum living. I have
been involved in numerous civic, professional, and
community organizations. One of my proudest moments
was being recognized by the American Society for
Training and Development (ASTD) in 1991 with a
Distinguished Achievement Award for helping to
develop a certificate program for professional
trainers, which was adopted by the University of
Oklahoma and developed by the College of Continuing
Education as a certificate program. It's nice to be
recognized for my work, and I am appreciative.
But
there's nothing like the satisfaction of just one
participant who comes up to me after a session and
says, "you changed my life today." Wow!
That's been my experience presenting Management You
courses. |
